    Default 7-3 evening trip

I was finally able to find a couple of hours to get out and wet a line or 2. Had a light breeze here at the house and I figured it would be a bit stronger on the pond. I launched about 5:20 in to a pretty good breeze (not quite a wind) out of the north. Air temp at 82 degrees at waters edge, low humidity and a near cloudless blue sky; very enjoyable conditions for a mid summer day actually. Water temp was a warm 79 at the surface out over the basin.
Took quite a while to hook my first fish, a small one eyed bluegill on the roadrunner with a stinger tail. A few minutes later, I had a double hookup, landing one bluegill and and losing the first crappie of the evening about 15' from the boat as I was reeling him in. A good hit soon followed, pulling drag and giving a real good fight; turned out to be a 14" LMB.
I did some casting over in to the shallower water with the roadrunner and landed the first crappie of the night.

Another soon followed, a better sized one.

Bluegill would be main catch of the night, most were in the 7 -7 1/2" class and smaller.

The action for them picked up after the sun began to dip behind the hill and the shadows began to creep across the water. I had a brief flurry of activity from the perch, too.

The wind never let up as I expected it to and I called it a night about 8pm. My shoulders were telling me I'd had enough rowing after my long layoff. Out of shape, I guess.
Totals for the night would be 4 crappie + the one I lost, the one bass, 3 perch, 1 pickerel that broke me off about 5' from the boat as I was getting ready with the net and about 15 bluegill, average size and under. All were returned for another day.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
