    Default Ice fishing, 2-6

A cold start at about 4 above this morning but weather guesser said the wind would be down and the temperature would rise quickly to near freezing. Well, she was 50% right. I packed up and got on the ice about 9:45 at 12 degrees. More of a breeze than a wind but still wasn't calm like she said it would be. Glad I had my hooded sweatshirt from the crappie dot com store on under my coveralls. I started right off in the deep basin, found fish in the first hole.

They were fussy today, had all kinds of lookers but darn few takers. I was on different water than my trips from a couple of weeks ago. What I lacked in numbers I made up for in size; ended up with 5 big crappie, smallest at just under 12", largest just under 14" and 3 nice perch and the little guy in the above picture. Even the mark on the sonar looked small but he wanted the same bait as the big boys!

This was the big lady of the day, just shy of 14

And the fattest lady perch of the day; looks like one you'd find from a youtube video. Simply bursting with eggs, right at 12" long.

I loaded up and hit the trail home just after 1pm, 26 degrees on the truck thermometer when I got there. Now I think I'll take a nap before dinner; the cold weather, heavy clothes, clumping around in my ice boots, pulling the sled sure makes the couch in front of the wood stove seem like the place to be right now.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

A 14” crappie is a solid fish. We had a good day on yellow perch yesterday but the crappie have been slow up here lately.
