    Default Another morning trip, 7-31

There is no better alarm clock than a pet yarfing in the hallway outside the bedroom at 4:30am. You know instantly what it is and you know you have to get up and deal with it. That's how my day started. Cat hacked up a fur ball so I got up to clean it up so Mama didn't have to; she didn't even stir, actually.
I had planned to get out anyway, this just got me an earlier start than I was expecting. We had a change in the air yesterday and this mornings temperature was 48 at home, 50 at lakeside when I launched at 6am. Water temperature at 74. Here is my setup as I headed out once I got everything rigged. Light breeze from the south to start off.

Got 3 quick sunnies to start off my day, the 1st coming less than a minute after tossing out the lines and getting going.

Big fish of the day came early, this LMB that took the Roadrunner with stinger tail. That combination would be the hot lure of the day, accounting for probably 85-90% of the fish I'd land. About 14" or so, I guess. I had the ruler with me but didn't bother to put any of today's fish on to check.

It would take about an hour for the first crappie to join me in the boat, about an 11" fish, also on the RR.

In fact, all 3 crappie today came on that same lure, big crappie of the day at about 12" and then one of around 10".

The light southerly breeze would taper off then rebuild, eventually becoming a strong wind from the NNW that quickly became stronger than I was hoping to see. By 8am it was there to stay, with clear blue skies and the sun warming things quickly. I let it push me around a while but called it a day at 8:30 as I had other obligations for this morning. I had planned to go to a pond closer to home for the short trip I knew this would be but with the earlier then expected start I chose a lake farther from home and this wind was not going to ease off any time soon.

Totals for the trip would be the 3 crappie pictured above, 2 bass and about 15 or so mixed bluegill and pumpkinseeds.

Slim chance I might squeeze in another short trip this evening, we'll see.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

Great trip. You got a good early start which allowed you to take advantage of the low wind condition. The cooler weather was a blessing for all of us up here yesterday. Glad to see you are still getting out. Keep it up for us that can't get out right now. Tight lines.

Nice early morning trip, even with the unconventional alarm clock! Would that be classed as a fishing hack?
I really like the pic of your boat and the rods and depth sounder and the morning mist. That's the kind of photo that for some reason even more than fish pics, makes me want to get out and go fishing!
