Default Fought the wind and won, 5-19

The breeze at home wasn't bad but it was blowing whitecaps on the lake I wanted to fish last night. I almost didn't go through with it but decided I was there and might as well try. I put in just after 5 and worked my way up towards the other end where the wind might not be so brutal. When I got there, at least the waves weren't white caps, but I still had to fight it all the time. I tossed out 3 lines to troll in to the wind and hooked up quickly.

I caught 3 or 4 before deciding it might be worth getting the camera out, that the first one wasn't a fluke. It soon became apparent that I was going to be busy, as the crappie and bluegill were just slamming the jigs.

I'm guessing the water warming and the 85 degree days we've had recently have really turned on the spawn here. Had numerous double hookups, usually double crappie. Here is a double with very nice 12" fish.

I left them biting about 7:30 as I had a long row back to the beach but I'd had a ton of fun. Total for the trip would be well over 30 crappie, with a few at 8-9" but most in the 11-12" range, very feisty and fighting hard. Bluegill were mostly caught early on but I pulled in 6-7 of those as well, with about half of them beating the 8" mark.

Certainly an evening to remember and I'm glad I decided to give it a shot, despite the wind.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
