Default Gambled on the wind today, 10-10

    I should have known better.....
I worked around the homestead here and kept an eye on the weather and especially the breeze. I hoped to have a chance to get out on the water after the chores were done but not if it was still windy. Seemed as though it might be slacking off a bit so I rolled the dice and headed out. Here are a couple of shots of some of the colors at lakeside. This is pretty much the same bunch of trees I posted on my last thread: here they are from 9-26:

And here they are from today:

And a couple more while the sun was out and warming my weary bones:

As you have probably guessed, I had a tough go of it. Launched at 3:50, air temp at 75 and the surface water temp at 61. Boat control was just a wish today; I had more twists and turns and end-arounds than I could count. Tried both going with the wind and rowing back against it; very little control either way. I finally tossed the white flag on this trip about 5:30. As the sun sank lower, the wind actually picked up rather than easing off; had whitecaps even before I called it a day.

I did keep the skunk out of the boat with this nice one, about 11" or bit better, taken with the paddle tail Slabilicious.

I also hooked and landed a 2nd crappie on the way in, about a 7 incher on the Roadrunner.
At least I tried, I hope conditions are a bit better for the next trip, whenever that might be. Hey, you never know unless you try, right?

Nice Crappie! At least you got two, six pound. Yes that wind was a heartbreaker today! I tried, too, only I got out about 9:00 A.M. and went to a section of river that I figured would be somewhat protected, not just running north-south, and with lots of trees and fairly narrow. It worked, the wind was pretty calm there, but almost no fish. I fished 3 hours, and caught only a 8" smallie, and an 8" bluegill.

The water was high, a surprise this drought year, but that's because they must not be letting a lot out at the dam about 5 miles south of here. Surface temp went from 60 to 63 by noon. I've got another spot in mind for next trip, but it doesn't look like warm weather again this year, it'll be chilly. Well, we'll hit fish sooner or later. Persistence, I guess.

Nice to see a crappie, even in a picture!

Those are some tough conditions to fish in. Nice 11 incher though. The smaller one was fun also Iím sure. Keep up the good work.
