Default Quick trip after work, 7-2

I still had a bit of gumption at quitting time so I peeked at the radar, packed up the boat and headed for the pond. I launched about 5 with a hint of clouds building way to the north and a light, variable breeze. Surface water temperature was 75, air temp mid 80's. I set up with my usual 3 trolling lines, 2 were crappie stingers, the other was a minnow tube. Took about 15 minutes to land the first crappie of the night, about 8" or so. A few minutes later, another about 9" or so.

Most of the fish tonight were 9-10"; nearly all of them were very skinny, hardly any meat on their bones at all. They came in spurts, 2-3 within 4-5 minutes, then a spell of 10-15 before the next one or 2, then another dry spell, etc. Did some casting to the weed line with a favorite color stinger as the wind was cooperating for a change. This one is just over 10".

As I went back to trolling, this one couldn't resist the green body/white tail stinger. 12 1/2" on this guy with a heck of a sore spot on his gill cover. This was the big fish of the night.

I kept an eye on the sky and called it a night around 7:15. It went from dead calm to a raging wind in the space of about 30 seconds; I was on the phone with my wife asking her to check the radar after watching a big cell swing by just to the west of me. Even she heard the wind pick up as I was talking to her. That cell missed me by less than 1/2 a mile as the crow flies I found when I hit the road home. Had wet roads all the way home but didn't get a drop on me. A lot of leaves and small branches on the road all the way home so it packed a bit of a punch; glad it missed me while on the water.
Total fish for the night was about a dozen crappie and one lone blugill.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

Good trip. Nice taking advantage of a few hours in the evening. Tight lines.
