    Default After work trip, 6-10

Today I had some free time after work so loaded up and took a short trip to see if the crappie were biting with the warm, humid day we had today. Had a bit of a breeze here at home and I figured it would be a bit stronger over at the pond so tossed in the anchors. That decision would turn out to be the best one I'd made all day as the wind picked up steadily and was blowing pretty good from the south the entire time I was there. In addition, one of the residents had his ski boat out and was having a grand time towing some kids around so I had some monster waves to go along with the wind. I tried trolling at first but soon found that he must have been at it for a while as the water was roiled up all the way down to the 10' mark and my lures would immediately foul from all the loose stuff in the water column. Plan B came in to play, which was to go over in the shallow corner, closest to the tree line on the south and east side and anchor in the deeper water and work the weed line by casting. I soon had a solid hit on the SP crappie stinger and lifted a nice 10" crappie into the boat. Reached for the camera and realized I'd left it at home so I don't have any pictures tonight. Tossed him back, tossed the stinger back out and soon had another about the same size. Over the course of the next 90 minutes, I landed 2 average bluegill and probably 25 crappie from around 8" up to a couple of 12 inchers. Most were 10-11" or so. All the while the waves from the ski boat and the wind combined to give me quite the ride, compared to what I'm used to . I launched about 4:30 and called it a night about 6:45. All were returned for another day.

Great outing by the sound of it. Aside from the constant ski boat waves. Good job defying the odds.
