Took a quick trip this morning, 6-6
Last night I made up my mind that I was fishing somewhere today. Woke up to foggy overcast; checked the local forecast and saw that it would be burning off shortly so packed up for a quick trip this morning. Looked like there might be some storms this afternoon so that helped me decide. Launched about 9 with calm conditions and began to cast along the shoreline close to the landing. Quickly hooked my 1st fish of the day, this 9" crappie. He went in to the cooler as I wanted 3-4 fish for some dinner this weekend.
Landed another little monster of about 5" shortly after, as the skies began to clear and the breeze began to build. I headed over to the other side where it was calmer, hoping to find some bluegill along another weed line that I knew a little better from past trips. Before long, I had another crappie in the boat, perhaps 10"; he joined the other on ice. Half a dozen casts later, this one of about 12" decided he couldn't resist the Southern Pro crappie stinger that had enticed the other ones.
I tried some other colors and other baits but this one color landed every fish today. I did find 1 decent bluegill and a couple more 9-10" calico's.
Kept a total of 5 crappie and the one bluegill. Called it a day about 11AM as I had other things to take care of this afternoon after cleaning the fish. Rather than filleting them as usual, I've chosen to scale them and will cook them whole (except for the 12", he got scaled and then filleted). I can't remember when I've fried up a whole fish rather than a skinless, boneless fillet and I've got a hankering to try it. So 4 whole fish and 2 big fillets with skin on will be on the menu in the next day or 2.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
