Walt & I hit the Connecticut River today, which is close by for launching. Main objective was to test out the small boat & engine and make sure everything is running OK. This will be our primary boat for the rest of this 2019 season, until ice up. Everything worked out just fine. A little hard getting her to turn over at the git-go, but a little starting fluid sprayed into the carb solved that problem quickly. She ran great for the rest of the morning.

The air was 44 degrees when we launched at 8:15 this morning. Water was at 54 degrees. A mild fall day with light to variable breezes. A bit cloudy for most of the morning, but the sun was a welcomed warmer for us when it did show up. Here are a couple of shots of the fall foliage when the sun poked through:

Couldn't ask for a prettier day for sure. Even saw the eagle fly over a time or two. When we moved out from the weed line, we started to mark some decent balls of bait and fish:

But the crappie were very reluctant to bite today, for whatever reason. We tried straight tails, tubes, horse head spins and marabou jigs. They didn't get really excited over anything today. We mainly drifted with the light breezes. We ended the day around 12:45 pm as the action had just slowed way too much to make it fun anymore.

Our tally for the morning was only 13 fish. One was a yellow perch, the rest crappie. Here's a couple of shots of our fish. Walt caught the "biggun" for today for sure:

    A real "piggy"!

    Here's a couple of mine:

Not a wonderfully successful day (catch wise), but very pleasant time spent with your fishing buddy. Always value added. And the boat's shake down was successful besides. Win-Win! Let's see if we can do better later on this week.

Looks like a nice day to be out. Not the numbers you guys have been catching lately but a good day just the same. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe a slower day than you're used to but a fine day just the same. Fish 'em while you can as the season's end is sneaking up on us for sure.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
