Default Not every trip can be great

Made it out today with my fishing buddy for the first time since June. We both have had a real busy summer and our fishing time has been at an all time low. We hit the water before sunrise, it was a little windy but not too bad at first. Water temp was 65 degrees.

The first spot we fished at the lake I hooked onto a good Crappie first thing. Not too long after my buddy caught another good one. That was it though. Only two Crappie between us for the morning.

The wind picked up more as the morning went on and the bite didn't improve. We caught a few fish of other species and kept some to eat but, Crappie being our target we were somewhat disappointed.

We fished until around 10:30 and went home. This lake is usually our best spot for getting on fish. It just didn't work out today. However, I can't wait to go again and I had fun just the same. I only took 2 pics this morning. One of the sunrise on our way out, and one of the only Crappie I caught.Name: 20190929_055847.jpg

Good to see that you got a chance to get out again; bummer that the fish didn't co-operate though. Were you seeing any schools on your graph like the MA guys seem to see? Mostly casting to likely spots or trolling them as you've reported before? What did you keep for eatin? You gotta give us the whole story, LOL! Pretty sunrise!

Nice report. You just never know when you start wetting a line what's going to happen. We all enjoy the experience regardless.

Great to see you got out. We have to take advantage of what little time there is left before the water freezes.

We were fishing areas with a lot of weed beds, so the fish are usually not able to be seen on the graph because they are among the weeds. We did try casting, trolling, drifting, different lures. Just couldn't make it happen.

We kept the 2 crappie, 1 yellow perch, 1 white perch, 4 pumpkinseed, and 2 big pickerel. Not a bad meal considering.

    Thanks for the response.

I guess you tried pretty much everything! It'll be better on your next trip, I bet. Lots of folks don't like the pickerel but I filleted and cooked up a nice one (about 3 lbs or so live weight) with my other panfish and it was very good. I wouldn't hesitate to fillet another big one. Other than the Y bones, it was a lot of good eating.
