Default A more productive trip last night, 9-10

Yesterday was an overcast and very calm day around here ( I just knew they'd be biting) so I packed up and headed to my favorite calm water to see if I could add a few to the freezer. I got on the water about 5 and pulled off at 7 when the bite slowed. I expected to troll around over in my usual area but noticed some fish directly out from the landing as I was setting up so started working that area instead. First fish in the boat was this guy, about a 9" fish:

I stayed in that general area all evening, hooking both bluegill and crappie on a pretty regular basis.

The bluegill were a bit larger than average so I tossed them in the cooler, too. Big fish of the night I think was the guy above, about 12". I kept a total of 16, 5 'gills and 11 crappie, from 9-11" for the most part. Or maybe it was this guy below, I don't know.

I tossed back 4-5 crappie that were a bit too small as well as another 3-4 'gills that needed some more growing. Trolled around this trip again as the wind was strong enough to make casting difficult. Everything came from the straight tail lures, the paddle tail and the roadrunner both flunked out again tonight. Changing seasons, maybe?
I do know that the days are really getting shorter; summer is pretty well spent and fall is just around the corner.

Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

Great pictures! Isn't it funny how on some days, only one bait profile works better than all others! Time & time again I've found it that way. That being said, I still believe my most productive profile is the straight tailed plastic. You just have keep changing and letting the fish tell you what they want on any given day. Great job out there!

Great that you got out again. We up here have to take advantage of what little time left to fish the open water. Tight lines to you.

Looks like another good outing. Those are a nice addition to the freezer. For some reason, straight tails are almost always the better bait for me. I only had one place this year where curly tails did better. Keep up the good work.
