Report: 8/30/19

What a day! Beautiful morning starting out with air temp at 53 degrees and water at 78. Calm winds. Full sunshine. This what we were faced with when we started fishing a few minutes after 8 am:



The first hour of fishing we did great with catching & releasing 24 crappie! Wow....this is starting off to be a banner day! Then the breeze kicked in around 9:30, which was welcomed. We ususally do very well with the wind, either side pulling with it, or drifting. Not the case today however. Second hour produced only 15 for us, all side pulling. It diminished in productivity after that however, with the increase in wind:



It wasn't a bad day for us, with a total catch of 59 fish; 4 were bluegill, 1 yellow perch and 1 LM bass. The perch, largemouth and one crappie were taken on an Arkie crankbait, with the hook modification that I've previously posted about here. But even that died after 10 am!

We marked plenty of fish and bait throughout the morning. Here are a couple of screen shots which were very frequent throughout the morning:





The sonar screen was like this most of the time. So, we knew we were on fish, only the bite died significantly after 10:30 am, for whatever reason. Not that we didn't throw the book at 'em either. We tried, as I said, crankbaits, Sliders, straight tails; all in various color patterns. I used the Garlic Slab Sauce as well, but the fish just flat out stopped feeding! Usually when the wind kicks up, the bite increases. (The older I get the less I know!) Guess that's why they call it fishing, and not catching!

Many more were less impressive. The bass was about 2 lbs., but I lost it during unhooking, so no pic! Great day to be out on the water regardless. Life is GOOD! God Bless America!

Sounds like you had a pretty successful day in your pocket before the action slowed down.

Knowing when to call it a day is a good skill to have, from my point of view. Hope you guys get out again soon, and that they bite a little longer for you next time.
