Another good day on the Q! Glad to see you guys seem to be making up for lost time. Nice size on that bluegill, too.
We're making up for lost time! First half of the season, we did not wet a line for a considerable amount of time. Health reasons, weather and doctor's appointments put a damper on our 2019 season. Things appear to be stabilizing somewhat (except for the weather!), so we were back at it again today.
This is what it looked like when we launched at 7:50 am on the Quabbin:
Very peaceful and calm. Air at 52 degrees and the water sticking around at 80 degrees. Cool start of the day, but a welcomed relief from all the heat. Unfortunately, this signals the start of the decline in temperatures and eventually cold/winter weather once again. Ugh! Oh well, you do the best that you can with what you are dealt with, so we persevere.
The wind ended up playing a significant role in our success. Not necessarily in a good way. We knew where about the concentrations of crappie were, we had a difficult time side pulling with the TM to maintain us on course. Started out calm but by 8:30 am or so, it started to kick up nicely. Unfortunately it was from various directions all morning long, which didn't help with boat control.
We marked a LOT of bait and fish. I grabbed this quick snap shot in between pulling in fish:
No big schools of crappie, but we marked this sceenshot many times throughout the morning. And each time something showed up, BANG! You got hit. A pleasant experience. Straight tails and paddle tails on 1/16 and 1/8 oz. jigs worked best. Caught a few on Road Runners, but the majority on plastic. When we pulled off at 12:45 pm, we had caught & released 71 fish; 14 bluegill with the rest being crappie. Here are a few of the fish we got today:
And these bluegill were no slouches either! They slammed our baits hard. Here's a sample:
A great day to be on the water for sure.

Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
Great to see you guys are getting out more often now. Getting some good action also.
