Default Quick trip this afternoon, 4-14

I finished up my chores this morning and around 1pm I decided to head back to the pond I fished on Thursday. Wind was very calm here at home but a bit more lively there at water's edge. It wasn't too bad and I had my anchors if I decided to stop and fan cast to some likely looking spots. Of course, as soon as I headed out from the landing the wind decided to blow a bit more.......and then a bit more. This pond is oriented North/South and the wind was coming directly out of the south. This was a help as I wanted to head north along the route I followed the other day. I was planning on dragging 2 lines today and once the water deepened a bit I tossed them out. In just a few minutes I hooked the first fish of the day, an 8" crappie, twin to those from the other day.

After unhooking and tossing it back, I cast back out and quickly picked up another 8" crappie on the other line.

That would be the last fish of the day as the wind began to blow in earnest ahead of the front that is coming through later this evening. It stirred up lotsa crud that came to the surface and my line would catch it and my lures would get fouled and I'd have to reel them in to clear them. I tried anchoring with my fore and aft anchors and still got dragged along some. Casting into the wind was impossible and casting with it produced nothing, even if I managed not to get fouled with the crud. I called it a day after about 45 minutes on the water.

Oh, well, there'll be other days with better conditions.

Glad you got out. Most times it’s not the fish we are after anyways.

Great that you got out. Hope you have better luck next trip. The weather up here doesn't look good for all of next week. Tight lines to you.

You did a lot better than we did on Saturday! On the bright side, things will get better from now on.

Fishing with wind like that is really tough. Good that you avoided the skunk though.
