    Default Orange

Now mind you this folks , it is pretty well known I am clueless and just stumble around "accidently" ketchn a few crappie from time to time . my disclaimer ,,,,,,
So you should be VERY careful about taking any advice from me on the who what and or where when it comes to trying to secure crappie fish .....just saying ....
Now that we have that settled and you have digested it , lets talk about colors on jigs .
The other day I stumbled up to a spot that can be pretty good for ketchn crappie . The fish there are a pretty good barometer for me on what might be a likely jig size and or color to use locally in my wanderings to and fro .
Now you might wonder some things when you actually cant use a bunch of technology and tips from your buddies on how to get on top of the crappie .
So here in lies the area of starting the guess work , do you see baitfish in the area ? do you see snakes and turtles in the area ? Are there fish hunting birds hanging around ?
Are the baitfish you might have spotted small or large is the first dilemma .
getting a jig that is close to the right size can make all the difference .
next up is the depths they might be holding in and that part is quite tricky without electronics to guide you .
So you go with an average size typically productive size and color first and fish the water column slowly and methodically .
If you only ketch a few and or none and are pretty sure they are down there , it is time to change things up on the presentation .
Hopefully you have patterned the depth you think the fish are holding in at this point and now you can dial in the color they want and size that they prefer .
Fast forward to my visit the other day , managed a few potato chips here and there and they seemed to be all over the place depth wise . Thought pretty sure there are larger specimens with them and it just about fine tuning me and my presentation a bit .
chart was so so , natural was no go , pink not so much either ......
went with an orange with some fine flake in it and proceeded to light them up like I knew what I was doing ......
I of course had tackle WAY to light to land any large crappie and the fights that ensued were quite brutal , lost one or 2 in the struggles ,but the good part was several really nice specimens got in on the image parade ......
so remember that in this episode of how to ketch a crappie , even though I got broke off by a toad and had to tie on another jig head , I stayed true to form on the color and size on the jig body .....
Remember this folks , it is quite possible to hammer with little or no outside guidance if you stay out of the you have to use this or that circles ....just saying ....and ...
KABOOM is the word on that lunch break no doubt

Well my favorite color combo here after a big rain in the spring is this little jig and it's paid off very well many times.
