ran the lake from far north to far south and there wasn't a real solid pattern best I could tell ya .
move fast and fish slow is what i hear works pretty well .....
most of the fish were at 5 to 10 foot deep in waters ranging from 7 to 18 foot deep .
very large amounts of schooled up shad on the surface everywhere .
bites were for the most part a bit more solid than they have been .
not real hard thumps but to be sure some took it hard enough to be considered a thump .
even found us 2 black crappie in the mix and they are pretty rare in there .
the dinks were in lower numbers than what has been the norm too.
will try another location today maybe and might go hit that one in a day or so again as well .
the good news is we didn't break any rods and i tried a new set up i put together .
it is a one pc 7 and in the medium fast puppy range .
water temp 83 when we started in the morning and heard tell it was 88 that afternoon .
some fish were on cover , but several were just suspended near drop offs on the break points .
best fish was in the 13 inch range ,but most ran around 10.5 to 12 inches .
orange and pink colors worked best and yes we dropped lots of color on them .
    was fun no doubt
I have been fishing every evening on the East End of Toledo Bend reservoir we managed to catch a few Crappie every evening with a mixture of bluegill and largemouth bass we are fishing in about 8 to 10 foot of water using small hair jigs like you say large amount of shed on the surface we have a strike zone about 45 minutes in the evening and after that no more fish. We did try stingers but they would not touch them.

Have had places like that also and you have to wait until that last bit of daytime to get bit, but then I have also had spots on this lake that were either hot or cold, but the best one ever was so good most will not believe what it was like. I only fished this spot for one or 2 years before I moved away, but I never went there in the fall that with myself and one other person, didn't matter if it was my wife for another guy that was a good fishermen or poor one, we would average 60 to 70 per hour. This was way back in like 1980 and I just learned about long lining by accident. Thought about using my troll motor to do what the wind did for me one day drifting over some flats. That was the thing that turned me into longline trolling crappie fishing.

Just to let all know I am not an idiot because that spot is still here, but it need Hydrilla big time and we don't have Hydrilla big time any more. Maybe it will return one day and if it does that spot will still be a killer! No other spot like this on this lake! I did go back to see and the Hydrilla was not there like it use to be and neither were the crappie!
