I've read that carp is good eating. At the old Joe Pool marina there were several that fished just for carp using kernels of corn. Let me know if you find out how they taste.

I've read they were initially developed in Asia as a food fish. I know they are very popular to catch in Asia and Europe. You would be amazed at the amount of gear dedicated carp fisherman use in those parts of the world. Especially since people fish for them with kernels of corn here.

Or at least I was amazed when I discovered the amount of fishing gear dedicated to catching carp while I was searching for crappie fishing gear on aliexpress.

But I agree with ketchn, I hate to find them when I'm fishing for crappie, in shallow water, or in my slips.

Yes people eat them, but have never tried them. A guy here would catch some, take home and put in a bath tub, then feed them corn meal for 6 to 8 weeks. Then would fillet them, and would then have someone smoke them. Think he said, that you need to de-vein them, but not sure. Guessing they were smoked like hams are. If you try it, let us know how they taste.

I hope you were talking to ketchn as I know I will not try them. I am not very adventurous when it comes to my food.

NUMBER ONE FOOD fish in the world , it is even considered a treat by some folks .
They are raised in farms in Europe and Asia and other spots as well .
ate some accidently when I was late to a fish fry one time and they ran out of catfish .
told me after the fact they kept bunches of carp for when they ran low on catfish .
told me it was a secret and no one ever knew it wasnt catfish ....
of course i was in my twenties and would put about anything that even slightly resembled a food item in my mouth back then
