    Default West Texas

So I grew up in North Carolina crappie fishing with my grandpa with a cane pole and bobber, spidder rigging tournaments with my dad and putting a minnow in the water for crappie any chance I got.

I moved to Lubbock because the military made me. 😂

Crappie fishing is a passion of mine and I have noticed it isnt as big a "thing" in west Texas.

I thought of starting a West Texas Crappie Association....

    Thoughts???

I grew up in West Texas and there is a love of crappie there. They just may not have that many groups. Doesn't hurt to start one.

Texas in general suffers in crappie clubs and the bigger clubs that host tourneys seem to avoid the biggest state in America for some reason..... Had puzzled me for a long time.....

it is because i imagine the local guys that fish certain lakes daily .
hard to outfish a guy that knows his lake like the back of his hand.
and then some of them share information and have that as a side kicker when they hit other lakes .
heck they will even lie and send you to the wrong lake or spot sometimes .
had several of them "friends" in this area do that trash to me as well .
of course i have a pretty good memory still and know who is who mostly
and those that do that kind of thing to me and others can have at it
none of them are in my circle for SURE !
I heard several good crappie guys saying they would NOT be in a tournament due to a local guide with a livescope just Sunday !
Said they might as well just give him the money and not bother giving it to the tournament as he would win for sure .
west of town that was ,,,,,just saying

Yeah Ketchum I've seen that type and a great reason for a crappie fishermen to do their own research..... It can start at home by studying lake maps......I take any crappie report as a second line of thinking as most are from yesterday or earlier and as you know yesterday is history with crappie fishn......

I take the opposite viewpoint. I don't guide so I don't mind helping another crappie fisherman find a good spot to fish. If I go to a spot and somebody is already fishing it I just see it as a good excuse to look for other good spots using my equipment. I have almost as much fun searching for new spots as I do fishing a spot. I have more problems with jet skis, water boarders, and wake boats driving me off a good spot than finding another person fishing the spot.

Besides I am going to start following SK's lead this year and start searching for and fishing stumps and laydowns that other people do not fish. I will fish brush piles and bridges when I have too many friends on board to fish smaller targets like stumps.
