    Default Spawn Halfway Gone?

Friends, it is my first spawn. Water is about 60. I am anxious to get in on the spawn action and put the hammer down in skinny water.

Tried a few spots yesterday and couldn’t find anything in the shallows. Put my jig in some woody timber by the bank and worked around a few cuts and coves. After an hour or so with no hits, I decided to change techniques.

Went to various docks and picked off a few fish here and there at moderate depths throughout the day. End of the day, I bagged 7. Talking bout KABOOM y’all.

Of these fish, only one was a male wearing his tux and there were a couple that were either beginning to show, or go back the other way. Only one female had eggs and I’m no scientist, but I’d wager a couple were females without.

My question, does this mean the spawn is most likely halfway gone? OR, is it possible it is just beginning?

    Best,

that boy fish has been shallow a while and or going there at night .
the real heat of the shallow water white crappie ketch festival is typically mid april around here .
that male fish was not far from where they are spawning btw
if he was under a dock you need to look closely around that dock and under it , there are beds close by .
and always back off to the nearest drop off or brush in deeper water close to where you find a boy sporting that much color .
within a few boats lengths or so at times are the big girls waiting for a roll in the hay
they are a bit tricky to find in short water and it pays to know where they like to be
the when part is a real guess ....4 to 5 days real hot and stable weather and somewhere in short water right before dark it is on.
this weekend could be the start of the primary white crappie run as well with the moon being all huge .
the spawn lasts a good long time and runs in waves with the white crappie .

Keep at it, make sure to fish next time the water is rising after a rain.

Water temps are rising slowly. First three days of 80 degree plus weather strung together and it will explode.

Haven't seen many wearing tuxedos myself yet but a few more are showing up each day. Caught 73 total in my slips today, only five were wearing a full tuxedo.

And before anybody gets excited about the 73 caught, all were returned to the lake as none of them measured 11 inches or more.

Saturday’s fish. Spent most of the day on the water and ended up with 8 or 9 keepers. Tried a different spot on the lake and found females full of eggs. Maybe we are just getting started as Ketchn suggested!

Your lake and or really long river has some mighty deep channels in it .
That coupled with such a long length will likely keep them busy for longer periods of time than some lakes

Hope so! I’m learning more everyday. I think it’s time I learn to tie a loop knot lol. Going to figure that out by next weekend Spawn Halfway Gone?
