    Default 1 and 2 ....

Stop one mid lake from the shore out to 14 fow .....not a peck
Stop two north side of the lake 4 to 5 fow ....instant bite first drop !
Dropped in for a few to check on the current conditions at a spot I like in west Texas .
Sun was shining hard and it was midday . Couldn't get a bit or even a peck at the first stop and its well known to be a great spot every visit . Second stop is much less well known and the water is really short and full of beaver chews .
Why do spots vary so much from time to time is the great unknown for me . the fish have been up hard at spot 2 for at least one month and spot one should be right in tune with it by now . Not a clue why sometimes it is this way ,but to be sure these fish will keep you guessing .
the fish were just for fun and I used a real light Allstar 5 foot ultralite with 6 lb hi vis mono .
7 fish hit the hand in 30 minutes and I missed at least 4 good bites . All males at this point at stop 2 and there were girls the first 2 visits with them . Colors were as good as they get at that lake on white male crappie and some of the fish looked really worked over .
Would you go so far as to say these fish were closing in on a done deal , I would venture to say it is at least peak there or more likely past peak a bit as several of the fish were much smaller than the previous few visits . When i ketch 11 inch males with lots of color and shredded tails and only one real large male in the mix it tells me the tale .
Soon it will be infested with some short male fish is my thoughts and a few less than stellar girl fish here and there. the spawn is a tricky thing and those that are waiting for it to happen best get out there .
that spot has at most a couple of weeks maybe before it changes dramatically in my opinion . the best spring runs take place often unchecked because people keep watching the water temperature and moon and etc etc etc .......
if you chase crappie in north Texas ,the spawn in most spots is well under way and it wont be long before it is a dink festival .this year the fish came in real fast and hard after the Iceage freeze on lots of lakes that typically have a later in the year bite in shallow water .
the fish went free this visit and i hope to get out again soon ....
them boy fish hit so hard by the time i was at number 7 the paint was chipped pretty bad on my craw color jig head , sure is fun to hook up to an almost 15" male in short water on a short light rod ....we sure enough went round and round on short line for a few
    KABOOM is the word
p.s. yes i had my little finger duct taped up as i punched a nice hole in it with a screw when i was moving some boards at our place in the country and it was spewing blood like a monty python skit and a slippery hand on a light short rod aint good in the spring time for sure
