Looking at Sam Rayburn to semi retire on. From what I’ve seen, it looks to be a great crappie lake.

Sam Rayburn is a great lake and about 25 miles from my home on Toledo Bend. I will say one negative thing about big Sam and that is if you want a boat house for easy access to fishing that is not possible on Rayburn as they do not allow boat houses on the water. Is the biggest reason I am on Toledo Bend, but I have fished both of them since they opened and eventually we spent a lot more time on Toledo Bend. However if you don't care about a boat house then Rayburn may be the one for you, but this is something you will have to decide for your self.

Like I said for me at 6 mile on TB, I am only 25 miles from putting in on Rayburn! I think the best of both worlds. Both are great Crappie and Bass lakes!

I do like a boat house. Might look at Toledo Bend, good crappie fishing? I also thought about lake Conroe, my son lives in College Station and we wanted to be close to our future grand children.

If looking at college Station, maybe research lake limestone.

Conroe is crazy crowded being closer to Houston.

Toledo Bend is an Awesome Crappie lake as well a great Bass lake. Also tons of catfish for anyone wanting to get them. 1200 Miles of Shoreline here and lots of banks without houses on the Texas side. Also where I am let me add again, I am only 25 miles from Rayburn!

I've fished Rayburn and Somerville. Both are good choices for crappie fishing.
