    Default Never thought

Dropped my boat off at the shop just prior to going out of town for a week. After getting back and not hearing from the shop I called at the end of the week of my return. I had never had my boat in the shop for that long. I figured no issue as it was 100-105° each day anyway. Finally called to find out I needed a flywheel as mine was throwing magnets. After another week I called again to find it was on “national backorder.” Find it inconceivable that there is not a flywheel available for a 115 hp E-Tec. Cannot wait to find a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke to replace this chunk of metal. Ok—I feel better. Thanks for letting me vent. Maybe I will go back to a 16’ Jon Boat with a hand steered motor. Seems like life was a lot simpler then. Hope you guys are catching some fish.

I bought an entire parts motor (with low compression) for my 48 HP Johnson. Cost me $700 and I basically have it all covered. Worst case I can put in and troll to the bridge and timber by the boat ramp if the wind is good.

Hope they take care of it and get you back on the water soon!

The end of a boating era? Evinrude outboard motors will no longer be manufactured

Crazy, but I ^^read^^ that Evinrude is no longer making some boat motors, including E-Tecs.

Some of the repair shops are bad about using unavailability of repair parts as an excuse. I took one of my boats in for repair and was told it would be three weeks before they could start on it and 4 hours to do the work once they started. I got it back three months later. They kept claiming the parts were on back order.

Funny thing is I got tired of waiting and phoned them that I was coming to pick the boat up since they couldn't get the parts for it. Guess what, they told me the parts had arrived yesterday afternoon and the mechanic was working on it now. Two days later I was able to pick it up.

Their delays cost me the sale of the boat as the buyer got tired of waiting and bought a smaller boat for more money. Needless to say they will never see another of my boats, even through they are next door to the marina where I have my slips.

EZ, if I didn’t know the mechanic personally I might be inclined to agree with you. This guy had dropped many other current jobs to put me in front as he knows how much I love crappie fishing. He has become a personal friend over the past several years and never has given me a thought that he would not do a quick and superb job on any repair. He will also fix a part instead of just replacing one which would be easier. I also feed the entire shop brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and all the sides at no charge. Management has taken my side in warranty battles so I feel they do what is in my best interests. Appreciate the insight and agree that what you describe could happen in this city but feel this shop is on the up and up.

No excuses now. Boat back, repaired like new, warranty covered everything but the deductible of $50. Normally don’t go on lake on weekends because of surf board bots but will probably make a test run and might accidentally wet a line (smile).
