Not to mention their tails still haven't healed!
During the winter carnage and the ever present Cormorant onslaught at that time , fish that are beat up and cut is the norm in lots of spots .yesterday i managed several fish with different amounts of beat down on them .
i think one is even a gar strike , go figure right ....poor lil crappie fisheez , barely surviving and along comes mister let me add a ripped lip to that scare pattern
crappie are on the menu it seems for just about all the species

Those cranes for sure put scares on several fish during the spawn while the crappie are shallow..... That is the ones that are lucky enough to get away from them...... If you want to call that lucky......

I wouldn't think any bird would get tot he crappie in July, but seems your fishing as of late has proven some of them come shallow when we think they are all deep!
Know for a long time I have seen guys fishing the standing timber on the shady side and doing well, but that usually is an early morning thing.

one thing i have learned about crappie that stands out is that just because everyone says they are not in a certain spot at a certain time of year just means that those particular individuals either didnt go to that spot at the right time and or didnt look hard enough when they did ...just saying
