    Default Moving off the banks.

Since the first of March me and my kayak have been beating the banks. Catching hundreds and hundreds of love sick crappie. This week though I had enough of it. I went down to a lake that's 45 minutes south of Wichita Falls, and about the same distance for folks traveling from the north part of the metro mess.

I had a feeling that a number of fish would be back on the timber at this particular lake. So I launched and went searching. Didn't take long for my hunch to be confirmed. I found fish on the trees from 6' to 15'. With the trees in 8' to 12' being the best producers. They weren't real thick on the timber like they are in the summer, but multiple fish could be had. I went as light as I could on the jig head, and trimmed the plastic down to match what was swimming around. Some were aggressive, and some just sort of softly put in their mouth. It was a fun day. Caught lots of average fish, bunch of smalls, and one dandy. The mondo measured at 15" and a half. Ditch pickles, and white bass were also had.

My buddies were calling me saying that the shallow bite was on fire at Kickapoo, and Arrowhead. For once I really didn't care. They and the rest of the masses could have it. I was beyond ready for the peace and solitude of being off shore. Its going to be a great summer of crappie fishing. My favorite time....tight lines folksName: 20200511_141057.jpeg

Good report. I'm ready for the summer patterns. You are right. Here in dfw the numbers on timber are few and big ones are really hard to find. It only takes one big hog to keep you coming back. Here is the ONLY keeper I caught last time out. Name: 20200510_142105.jpg

I noticed them leaving hard a week or so back myself . some spots even back in April .
There were a few spots last week that were still very good in short water .
But even those faded by the weekend .
post spawn fish are fun though . I know one spot that is ridiculous on fire in deeper water right now .
