Default ALL BIG BOYS YOU SAY ?

Yes yawl , big white males showed up in a pile about 50 feet from where they like to spawn !
when I opened them up and peeked inside they were flat full of love juice .
no girls in the area yet ,but to be sure we are about to get stupid with BIG crappie.
some had a bit of color that led me to think they were boy fish before I filleted them .
those that think the water is too cold at mid 50 range for the spawn to begin are for sure clueless about crappie behavior during the spawn.
blacks are for sure already spawning in some areas of Texas and the BIG whites will be up late February/early march in most all lakes locally .
don't pay no nevermind to those running all over the lake this time of year and still looking for fish in deeper water ….a rise of 5 degrees from the winter low with this amount of daylight will bring them close to shore QUICK !
just a quick fyi from little ole me . get you a few whales in the early run before you hit the numbers in the later runs is my wish for all .

Don't know if water temp in the 50 range is too cold for the crappie but I know air temp in the low 40 range is too cold for me! Yes, I know I am a wimp but I can feel for you Northerners who wish the air temp was in the 40 range.

I had a guy I do business with down from Wisconsin, said he knew he was coming to Texas to enjoy some nice weather, this was yesterday when the high was 43 in DFW..... He said it was almost as cold here in DFW as it was up yonder..... Our cold and hot is made worse from the humidity we have.....

them sacks was popping ripe in the ones I filleted , I don't open the gut cavity and I could see them bulging thru the thin veil on the belly after I took off the fillet .
and the bolder stripes and spots right out of the water and not overly swollen bellies told me what was up right quick .
of course the fact they thumped like a ball pin hammer helped seal the deal on my thoughts as well .
nothing like an agitated spring male with no gals to hang around with you know

when the water hit 55 last year on the full moon in February they came in like chickens to hen scratch when the sun set in HERDS to the bank …..and so many of them there semi pro wanna be folks said I had no clue and they were on bait ….
there wasn't a day after that moment in time last year the fish got larger or in more quantity in short short water …..
I know one old timer I chatted with last year on a spot we hit early that said I done missed the real big fish a month before I got there on the first of march , said the truly large fish were already done and gone in mid February …..
and that lake is a hundred miles west of the first one ….

Outlaw always appreciate the knowledge you lay down for us clueless fisher folk. It is always a mystery to us in MO and midwest as well as to when and there are no flashing signs that say THIS is the time for the spawn. Have fished the rip rap after everyone had been on the spawn and quit in a place EVERYONE who fishes that lake is on the banks and next to boat putin and the BLACK crappie were all up on the bank in the thousands and my bud and our wives had a incredible half hour of action till we had the livewells full and quit. was there the night before and only found them with an errant cast to right up against a big rock on bank as we were looking for brush 30 foot off shore in 12 FOW.

with lakes flooded in MO most everyone I spoke with never got into spawn fishing where I go last spring. It's like the guy who claims to know what woman want when it's always a mystery.

Sometimes they just get ready and it on, I believe I have caught them shallow with the water temps in the mid to low 50's. Pretty sure all we need is a few days a little warmer.
