Default Difference a day makes in crappie fishing

Yesterday morning slabdaddy911 and I spent a good part of the day fishing my slip, Joe Pool Lake and various marina slips and caught only one dink large mouth bass between us.

This morning I fished my slips for 30 minutes and caught three nice keepers. At 10 AM I went out to the dam and fished wandering schools of fish and bait fish. I caught white bass and crappie. I had to work for the crappie as the schools were composed of bait fish on top with white bass under them. There would be three or four larger fish under the schooled white bass.

The first time I just assumed the three or four larger fish were bigger white bass after catching a few of the smaller schooled white bass. I decided to try and fish for the larger ones so I added a split shot to the line to try to get the jig down to the larger fish. You can imagine my pleasant surprise when the first one I pulled up from under the schooled white bass was a 14" crappie.

I continued to do this and ended up with 9 12.5"-14" crappie this morning. I had to work for every one of them but it was a fun job.

I hated to leave with them still biting but had problems with my 9 month old MK trolling motor. The remote stopped working, then spot lock not would not work on the foot controller so I had to stop fishing at 1 PM. It's a shame that something this expensive cannot work for at least the warranty period without giving problems. Now I must call MK Thursday to determine the next step to get it working again.

Why would anybody want to chase wild geese when you sent them after crappie?

One day it is the next it ain't...... Same applies to depth, color of jigs, action and or no action, locations and so many other things these fish do or don't do......
It's what have me addicted to chasing them, they will keep you on your toes.....
