Default Slow crappie day for me on Joe Pool this afternoon

but the white bass almost made up for it.

Only caught a couple of small ones on my slips so I took the pontoon out to the bridge. Saw plenty of fish in brush on livescope but no movement of fish nor bait fish around. Tried one brush pile for ten minutes then decided to move to a different section of the lake and try for schooling crappie in the deeper water. Did not catch a single crappie from all the schools I tried.

But I caught nice sized white bass every drop in each of the schools I tried. Only caught two small ones the whole afternoon, most were 12-16 inches and put up a nice fight with each hook up. So it seems I have the white bass catching down but I have not been able to find where the crappie are hiding.

I had a lot of fun fighting the white bass but it just not the same as catching crappie, even if the crappie are all dinks.

Well, that's sucks when the crappie get lock jaw. Glad you got to feel the rod bend on those sandies. I too had a rough end of the week for crappie. Friday and Saturday were terrible. Tons of fish on the graph, but they weren't having it. Oh well, all we can do is stay at them

I plan on searching for them again tomorrow afternoon. I figured when I finally find their current hiding grounds I am going to have a sling fest for sure.

They can hide but not forever. But right now they appear to be a moving target. But at least I know know where to find the white bass so I can get some action if the crappie won't fight.

But last night I watched a youtube video that stated that when you find them stacked in brush and they won't bite, switch to a heavy jig and place it deep down in the brush. He claimed and showed that would usually trigger at least one bite as you disturbed the brush. I am going to try that today with 1/4 oz jigs at the bridge.

The difference a day makes. I went back to the area to fish the schools where I caught all the white bass yesterday and only caught one small white bass today. Today it was crappie in the same location but it was hard to get them to bite and only caught one keeper the entire afternoon. Guess I spoke too soon about knowing where to target the white bass.

I tried what I saw on utube, about placing a jig deep in the brush pile when they would not bite today. All I can say is it did not work for me but I did manage to get several jigs hung up doing this.

Sometimes they want a tiny jig when they get lockjaw. I'm talking 1/64th size. I once found a school of crappie and they refused to hit any of my jigs. Out of frustration I dropped them a tiny spoon and caught 4 slabs in a row. You have try everything and hope you hit the lotto.

Today the while bass were back in schools where they were Sunday. But the bite wasn't as fast, just 5-6 white bass an hour. Smallest was 12", largest was 18". Would find a school, spot lock for 5 minutes, if fish caught jig another five minutes, if not find another school. Caught 1-3 white bass per school, mainly just one per school. Slow but it was still a fun four hours.

Did not catch a single crappie at the slips, only had one bite in 30 minutes of trying before took pontoon out on lake.
