Default FULL WINTER BITE IN OCTOBER ?

it by golly was yesterday in the howling north wind and cccold in shallow water .
I dropped my jig to 7 foot deep , note how far below my 6 foot rod.
in like 7.5 to 8 foot of water .
and you had to hold it still as a statue and wait for it .
then they would hit it so hard you would about lose your rod .
I mean just like a December deep fish bite , just smack the fire out it like someone took a hammer to your rod tip .
Both species present and accounted for as well .
no small fish in the mix either and its a small fish lake most of the time
shad all over the surface all around me struggling
gots to love it , nothing beats a hammer bite from a crappie on a jig in the winter

Looking forward to a bite like that. Water temp should drop after this cold front and on our lake that is what gets our crappie back on the brush.

our water temps dropped about a lot in the last 2 weeks .
i think we might be as low as 60 degrees now .
i watched it drop more than 7 degrees in less than a week last week
not sure why it varies so much each year
but to be sure it was full blown winter mode ketchn yesterday

I think they wanted actually black and chart but I only had one left and several different versions of orange that they seemed to like pretty well the 2 days I visited there .the plastics are all "seconds" and the 2 color ones split really easily darnit …..
I will likely get a bag of black and chart and or find a few in my backseat and try them next week . the water is pretty turbid in there with not much for visibility since a few rains hit us lately .
I am there just on my lunch break though and don't have much time to try different options . 6 or 10 fish and I have to run don't you know .

I think you got a way better lake to fish on than me.

I hit about 6 lakes really frequently and some are better on some days and some are not worth visiting .
this spot is only good about 2 or 3 months total a year .
1.5 in the spring and about 1.5 months in the fall give or take .
I rotate where I visit with the seasons a lot and go where fish are likely to be during a certain part of the year .
will be saying see ya soon to this spot as they will move on to other spots in numbers and not be there in numbers until spring gets here .
crappie off the bank and in the boat require adjustments in locations and strategies quite often to stay busy with them .
