4 lakes with crappie just north of you. Granger Lake, Walter E. Long Lake, Lake Austin, and Lake LBJ. Lake Austin probably the toughest (the one I fish a lot) but the crappie are large and the other three provide different challenges but tremendous opportunities. I recommend a guide to get you started. PM me and I will provide his name and website. He was instrumental in me returning to my first love of crappie fishing.

Aside from what dhaire mentioned...Dunlap and McQueeney have crappie and nice sunfish. Canyon is good for whites but can be tough for crappie. Georgetown is good for whites. The North San Gabriel is the popular white spawn spot. Colorado Bend Park is a crowded usual close to there too. A buddy has said that a lot of the waters down there got the zebra mussels, so look into that if you're not familiar with them and how they spread.

That is why we hunt Axis in the Hill Country. Taste better too.

Oh yeah the deer are smaller, but if you get a little more South there are some really good bucks for sure! However even they are smaller than the big 300# ones you see up North, but a 200# or a little larger with great rack is plenty possible!

I will let them tell you about the fishing as I do not fish that far West, lol! Now your going to an area with great food so if you like food, BBQ, Smoked meats, your in heaven as it's not that far to Lockhart for great BBQ and smoked meats you have the best right in town, Hickory-Smoked Meats Since 1945 | New Braunfels Smokehouse

Hope you enjoy it here! It's a whole other country though!

Oh and one other small thing, driving across Texas is going be a lot different too, it's a little larger than the state you are coming from lol!
