Canyon Lake does have crappie but it's a difficult lake to learn. The water is deep and clear most of the time. Most crappie and bass are caught deeper, 18' to 35'. The river can be very good in the winder and spring but main lake generally is better all other times. We have white, blacks and blacks with racing stripes. Canyon is like most lakes...jigs one day and minnows the next...here today and there tomorrow. That's what makes fishing interesting. There are several lakes within a couple hours drive that have crappie. LBJ was a great crappie lake until the flood, last year. The lake has more brush from the flood than it has had in years, but the bite still has not really come back. Lake Austin and Travis are the same. Medina and Choke Canyon are beginning a rebound after being almost dry. Decker (W.E. Long) is a power plant lake near the Austin airport and it has been the most consistent this year. The fun part of moving to a new area to going to new lake, learning and having fun... catching is an added benefit. Welcome to our area and enjoy our way of life.
