I know you think we just sit in our boat and whine (smile) but that is not true. We continue to try all suggested methods and techniques and will continue to do so until the season starts changing and our favorite fish start biting more consistently again. The heat keeps us from fishing during mid day, a time suggested by some particularly when they have weed beds that the crappie can hide in from the sun.

We are going to a different lake this morning with high hopes of catching just a few crappie. The trip is relatively short, just 1 hour away, but about 55 minutes more than putting in on our home lake. We are trying to break our habits of comfort. We will post the results later today. Thanks for all the encouragement you and Ketchn and others provide. We sincerely appreciate it.

Start shallow brush or maybe docks early, by late morning 9 or 10am start looking under the darkest docks and drop offs in 10 fow that have sharp drops to 15 or deeper . Edges on channels and I don’t know where your going but you might start right out on the rocks on the dam about 8 to 10 foot deep first thing ....luck to ya
Keep on the move till you find them

    L....O....L...
    I would never think that....
Sometimes a trip to another lake is what's needed to build your confidence back up....
Confidence is a major part of putting fish in the boat.....
    Ketchn mentioned some good info.....

Good Luck and make it happen....

The trip was hot, uneventful, and non-productive. Tried multiple spots offered by a buddy that guides including pillars of a bridge. Caught blue gill and one under-sized crappie. Spent 5 hot hours moving from location to location. Some shallow and some deep.

Went back to our lake today and followed Ketchn’s advice. Minimally successful on crappie and one nice pickle.

There's definitely something being overlooked here....I haven't pinpointed it yet but there's definitely something...
Did all the crappie get washed out if the lake? No, that never happens.....
Did they all die? No someone would've reported a fish kill....
Is the fishermen's confidence low and expect not to catch any fish? From what i've read YES...
Is there anything I can give this fisherman to help him?

YOU NEED TO GET OUT THERE AND CATCH THOSE FISH....
There will always be fish deep, but the more active fish will be where the bait is and I doubt that's deep.....
Clear your mind Brother and give that 10 to 15fow a honest go..... Find piles and drop a jig on it..... I know you have LS and have confidence in it but maybe stepping back and doing what you know works will change the outcome..... You have LIVESCOPITIST.....

Haaaa. Now that is funny. We fish 4-5 days a week. We do not lack confidence. We feel like the wooden Indian when the greenhorn lady walked up and said: How. The Indian said: know how, just need chance. Anyway, so much for bad jokes. We will be at it again shortly and will continue to try the 10-15 foot of water. We have lots of lay downs that fit that description. We are using LS only to see if there are fish on the brush and we do not count on that alone. We still fish it as we have hours to search and would rather do nothing but fish. We are still dragging 2-10 fish out in 5 hours so it is not time wasted. We just normally do better in the other three seasons (although in Texas seasons seem to blend). Thank everyone for their valuable time and support. I have some downsized and darker jigs coming tomorrow from Pepop and I think that also may help. We definitely are of the persuasion that a bad day on the lake beats a good day at work and we are enjoying our retirement immensely.

I fished some lay downs with a friend last night. First drop resulted in a very nice 16" crappie. Second drop for me resulted in a respectable 12" crappie. I told him that it looks as if we are going to finally have a good night. Should have kept my mouth shut. I only caught two dinks the rest of the night. He only caught one dink crappie and one dink sand bass.

And to rub salt into the wound there were two men fishing about 100 yards from us pulling them in on a regular basis. They were using minnows, we were using jigs. But it was fun being out on the lake, and since it was night time it wasn't very hot.
