    Default Which way?

Not sure what direction to take. Only crappie we are seeing are on deep brushpiles. I know that so many of you are finding them on water shallower than that but we repetitively check most of ours every other trip, or so. We catch a half dozen then they clam up and will not bite anything. The ones we catch are beautiful and fat. Just not many of them. Trying jigs from 1/32d to 1/8th, different colors, crappie nibbles, minnows on bare hooks, etc. water temp is 85 degrees which is hot for out lake. Temps on the water has been over 100 degrees for several days and more to come. Guess we may try one of three other lakes in central Texas but sure hate to leave our home lake. Here is what we are catching.

Half a dozen is great for me most days haha in all seriousness though, I fish jigs exclusively and last time out on Ray Roberts here in North Texas water temps and outside were exactly what you're describing. I had my best luck on bridge pilings 20-30fow 15-25 ft down depending on the pilings.
There's tons of standing timber on Ray Roberts and guys fishing with minnows did well in about 15-20 fow when they found a tree holding them. They were hit or miss with jigs. Seems everyone is having the best luck with minnows that I've talked to out there and all the lakes here have slowed down tremendously.

On a side note I have a post about a recent trip I made with my brother in law up in Arkansas (similar water temps, but the morning was cool from a cold front blowing in then heated back up to the high 90s in the afternoon). We caught some really nice ones in 6 fow on a bluff underneath an overhanging tree that was touching the water.

FWIW: all of my best fish lately have been on 1/16 heads with a 2" curly tail in gray/silver flake or white depending on their mood that goes for vertical jigging and casting.

real early the fish might be on shallow brush eating fry , its worth a shot at daybreak to look around cover in 4 to 8 fow
come daylight a lot of them move deep and park and sometimes wont bite even if you find them .
yesterday it was slow in the am where I went and I went back at noon and laid hammer to them right on the bottom in the same spot
sometimes it just is what it is my friend

Agree with Ketchn on shallow early, but I am talking 10" as shallow maybe a little deeper. If you have a lot of trees in your lake the shady side of the trees will hold fish early before the sun gets up much. Once the sun gets up they are doing deeper IMHO! Maybe if you have a nice brush pile in say 15' of water they will be there early too. You can also look for deeper water docks or at least docks that have a little water under them.

Question? Are you depending on a electronic device to tell you weather the fish are on structure?
If so I'll let you know rat now that's a big mistake, with the hot clear sky days the fish will hold so tight to structure electronics won't pick them up and yes not even LS.....

I bow to your years of crappie fishing experience but I will tell you this. Even buried in brush my LS highlights them and I see their shape and movement within the brush. In addition, the ones we catch have been suspended above the structure and we can see the strike of the white bass, gasper gou, slime fish and green pickle as they move the crappie aside to hit our bait. We can also see the crappie, when they deign to dine, slide the bait into their mouth tenderly then move laterally. No thump and just light weight until we set the hook. Without LS we would have to be lightly lifting the line blindly to see if there was something on it. Submitted with all due respect.

You must have your unit dialed in a lot better than the LS unit i've been fishn under..... To me LS is nothing but 2D that gives at the moment updates.... And from what I've seen when my jig and or the fish is close to structure it becomes part of the structure.....
Wish I had the time to get over there to see how difficult those fish are or are not
    Stay At'um....

I will say you are missing the depth and width of LS but makes no difference if you are catching crappie old school. I am finding them but not catching many so have to hope for cooler weather in the forecast.

Are you using forward view or down view? And what display unit are you using with the livescope? And would you mind providing the settings you are using to obtain such clarity?

I have tried forward view and then switched to down view as it seems to provide a better pattern for two people fishing the front of the boat.

I can see when the blob of my jig occupies the same 2d dimensional space with the blob of the fish but I can not tell if they are in exactly the same space or a few feet apart. I definitely can not see the fish strike the jig. I can see the blob approach the area of the jig and will raise the rod tip when that happens. But I can not say that I see the crappie strike the jig.

So I would love to know your settings so I can get my unit to do a better job.
