    Default Joe Pool Lake

Went out this morning to check on some new spots I found the other night. Got a late start due to a doctor appointment but was still on the lake by 9. None of the new spots were showing any fish, they ranged from 15' of water to 30' of water. Since the water on Joe Pool drops to 50+' in places I guess I will need to look for suspended fish in deeper water.

I went to one of my older spots in 20' of water and the LiveScope just lit up with active fish. This is a large bp and the top was just loaded with fish moving above it. This spot was freshened up a week ago with new brush. So I tried for about 15 minutes, received some thumps but couldn't catch a single fish. Some of the thumps pulled my rod tip down hard.

I recalled a post I read a couple of days ago and switched to my ultra lite rod with a 1/64th jig as the top jig and a 1/8th as the bottom jig for weight. The jigs had barely dropped when the rod bent double. After a few minutes of fun I reeled in a nice hand sized bluegill. I spent the next hour catching hand sized bluegill drop after drop.

I left at noon due to the heat but am going back out tonight, weather permitting.

So now I know why I haven't been able to catch many crappie at the spot over the last two weeks. I have fishing for the wrong fish there. In the past it was a nice crappie bp but since I enjoy catching large bluegill as much as I enjoy catching crappie I'm not complaining about the change over.

and yes mister EZ large bluegill look lots like smaller crappie on a graph sometimes , I seen that in timber and on bridges in the summer myself ,and many times a few feet below the fish up higher in the column that are less active are crappie btw
