Default Corp Finally Releasing Water From Joe Pool Lake

They started Friday by releasing a trickle out to see how it impacted downstream. Yesterday they increased the flow enough to drop the lake about six inches. The marina believes the boat launch ramp will be usable today and that they will need to use pickups to take people to the dock area. They believe that it might be possible to walk to the dock area using the main entrance by Sunday night. But it might be another week before the slip parking lot is dry.

I hope they are right but we have more rain coming next week so I will need to see it before I believe it.

Yes sir. It would be nice if they would up the release, but I guess since it's downstream from Benbrook, Vine, and the others releasing it's not that easy. Good to see it all going down for sure

I've heard before of places waiting a couple weeks to open even after the water is down to avoid damage to the concrete. I don't remember if it was a COE thing specifically or not.

I have been out in the pontoon the last three days. It was windy but fish-able. Got a little wet crossing the lake from the spray but it was a warm day.

Didn't catch much yesterday but did well today fishing the bridge pillars. Everything yesterday was too small to keep. We caught a lot of small ones today but ended up with 12 legal keepers. I was too tired to fillet them tonight so I have that to look forward to in the morning.

We will soon be riding in the back of a pickup again to get to the docks. Water is almost too low for them to use pontoons now.

My 10 year old grandson went with me today. Only caught one at the slips so we went out to the bridge to fish. Fishing was slow but he was able to catch some so he was happy. Then we went back to the slips and he helped me build a fish attractor. He did all the work, I just showed him where to drill the holes for the pvc pipe. I helped him insert the pipe then he used the drill to put screws in each arm to keep them in place. He said it was fun building it but it was a lot of work to build.

When it was finished he wanted to drop it into the water. So we now have four in the water at the one slip, 96 more to go.

Sound like a fun day with your grandson.....
Do you have him using his yet?
Sound like you're planning on having those slips covered with structure.....

I plan on having both slips covered from one end to the other and maybe even out into the water behind them But I don't plan on doing it all in one day, it might take me a year or two to get it all done.

The one he put in probably won't be producing anything for a few weeks but he is planning on going fishing with me more over the summer.

They are now saying that we may have another 2-4 inches of rain this week which means Joe Pool will rise at least 2 feet and it may be late June before the water level returns to normal.

You can now launch your boat at Lynn Creek Marina and some of the other Joe Pool Lake launch sites. They believe the parking lot will be usable by next week end. You can get to the docks, fishing barge and marina store now, you just need to park and walk in the the entrance at the launch area.
