To bad y'all had to spend $30mil to get there....

These fish are easily caught with 2D, it may take you a lot longer to learn a lake but easily done.....

What was the biggest game changer ever in crappie fishn is side imaging and will always be the biggest game changer....
I'll be upgrading my units soon and it won't involve LS....

No don't take offense it's just my opinion.... and no I don't think it's cheating just unnecessary.... but fun to play with any fishn electronics......

So funny how people have LOTS to say about what they don't have....

Here is the way I look at it. I catch limilts. Actually have been know to catch more than my limit on acident (that was over 2 yrs and 1 day ago). If you do not know what that is, it is the statut of limitations for the Texas Parks and Wildlife. Anyway, back to the story, I have caught many limits, limited out, kept fishing and started culling because it was fun. I bought my Garmin Livescope and it is being installed at this moment, well this week. I will have fun with it. There are times I simply cannot find a fish even in my "Secret Spot". That is when I plan to use it. Find the brush piles. using sides scan, downscan and livescope, even 2D I have a humminbird and Lowrance on the console, and humminbird, lowrance and Garmin on the front. If nothing else, people are going to ask for my autograph because they will think I am famous.

Simply put, I plan to fish like normal as I have places I know where they are, but at the same time, I am curious at just how many are there. On a new lake will I use it, sure, but I will do it like normal and look at topo maps and figure things out prior then start looking using the resources I have.

We have caught countless limits over the last couple of years using just 2d sonar so yes Livescope is certainly not a necessity. That being said, it opens up a lot more water that would have just been very difficult to fish and also be alot more effecient using other strategies. I have done more dock shooting this year and limited every trip. Found crappie under just about every dock just not always able to get to them. Probably the most fun fishing though is going in to big stands of submerged timber and hunting them down. On palestine there is lots of timber under the surface and it is truly amazing just how many fish live out there. Have learned many things about fish behavior that would have never thought to be true.

Livescope is an incredible tool and a whole lot of fun to use. However, it has its limitations. The livescope transducer has to be mounted on your trolling motor or a small pole. Therefore, while the transducer is in the water, you are limited to trolling motor speed. It also only shows images at a 20 degree spread. This will be about 3.5 feet at a 10 foot distance and 7 feet at 20 feet. Think of it as shining a flashlight in the dark. You can see what it is pointing at but nothing more. In the dark, you could walk within 10 feet of an object and not see it if your flashlight is not pointed directly at it. Because of these two limiting factors, speed and field of vision, you will never be able to scan a lake like you can with other fish finders, i.e side scan, etc. You have to know where the crappie are most likely at and use your other skills to put you in the area or livescope has a limited advantage to you. Some people talk about livescope as if it will magically draw your boat to a 3 pound crappie. It doesn't. I've tried. Lol

LiveScope can bring tears of frustration to your eyes when you can see huge numbers of crappie stacked up around and in a brush pile and you can't get a single one of them to take the jigs you present to them. You vary color, size, presentation, scent, nibbles and they ignore them all. I often keep minnows in my second live well for my grandson to use when I can convince him to come fishing with me. This time I finally gave up on the jigs and tried his rod with the minnow hooks, hooking the minnows through the mouth. That was ignored as well. So I tried small minnows, with a smaller hook, hooked through the eye socket. That was also ignored.

I spent three hours there, watching those darn fish ignore everything I tired. I was ready to use my cast net but decided it wasn't worth the risk of tearing it up since I probably would not catch any of them that way either.

As I said previously, LiveScope is great for showing whether there are fish at the spot or not. But it does not guarantee you will catch any of those fish that you see. In this case I finally give up, went to the bridge and caught crappie.

I might upgrade my units when HB comes out with their new unit, well that's if it's not $30k...LOL
I love using electronics and have fun whenever EZ pulls his LS out while we're fishn.....
LS is definitely something new....
