    Default DFW Spring Reports

So, I’m pretty much reporting that I’ve pretty much been having my a$* handed to me overall. I haven’t been able to get out a lot or for long enough, but I have caught some 9.5” specials AND a 1.5 - 2 lb, around 15”, donkey while fishing for sandies in a place I’ve never ever even seen a crappie caught. In 1.5 ft of water, current below a small set of rapids no less. These mysterious crappie never cease to amaze me I tell ya. Wish I had my phone but I left in the truck as usual. I caught a few smaller crappie there too. I switched over to crappie fishing and nada. Go back to sand bass fishing and another small crappie bites. The sandies were for a confidence boost. It was cool to catch my best crappie of the year while doing so, but aggravating as hell at the same time lol. I also recently caught way more poison ivy than I expected, or wanted, trying to get at the early fish.

So, how are all my brothers doing out there this spring?

Oh yeah man. It’s definitely for real. The bite wasn’t as tough as I expected today, but the dinkfest continued. Those thumps always feel good though. I carried my phone this time but only took one pic because they all looked the same. Skinny Minnie’s round 9.75 - 9.95” lol.

I’ll also say, if you think those fish with stripes love to tear up your crappie jigs, they love stealing a crappie nibble at the same time even more.

If you’re willing to put in the exploring and work this place takes being on foot, especially the long walk back with fish, a creek on the western side of DFW known for its high banks is holding some good fish in plenty of spots. The cold front blew in and it got cold. The wind was howling and crazy. My phone almost drowned and I was wet. But it was the best day of catching I’ve had in some years.
