    Default Tips on Tawakoni

Arkansas boy here has been wanting to fish Tawakoni for a while now! Going to try to make it down there while my son is on Christmas break! Looking to catch some of those trophy catfish but crappie would be ok as well. Tips on places to stay in the area, launch the boat, where to get bait, and a generalized place to start fishing would be very much appreciated! Also wife and very young daughter will be with us but they may not want to fish. Is there anything in that area for them to do as well?

I'm probably not going to be much help, because I'm not real familiar with the lake, but it won't hurt. Every time I've been I've/we've put in at Two Mile Bridge on 276. I think there is a ramp on each side of the bridge. I've had really good luck with crappie on the pilings most times. It might be early for the bridges if the crappie are still in the creeks, but I'm not real familiar with the lake overall, like I said. The catfishing we did was nearby too, and some good points for hybrids/sandies are also nearby. So I like this area of the lake, personally.

As far as catfishing, I went with my uncle (who loved this lake) here and there. A few times in winter. We put in at the same spot. That's how I was introduced to this lake to begin with. He would only use fresh cut bait. We would get there early, find shad, and net them. We always fished in the area south of Two Mile Bridge. Moving along one main channel specifically looking for big clusters of baitfish. If there looked to be a lot of fish with the cluster of baitfish, we'd anchor. Other times we'd drift fish the channel very slowly.

Try to find a map of the lake. One of the nearby stores or marinas should have one. It will be the biggest aid to you to know the channel I'm talking about and any other channels if you're going after big cats. It will have other structure, etc. you can target that might save your day if it's not going as good as you had hoped.

I don't know about places to stay or things to do as I just drive there and back. Hopefully someone else will chime in with more help.

One last thing. This lake can get wicked when a bad storm is blowing in or there is a strong north wind. Check the local weather. Good luck!

Here’s a video a local guy just put up yesterday crappie fishing at 2 mile. I’m assuming it was shot within the last week.

I only fish for crappie at Tawakoni and two mile bridge is your best bet this time of the year. I would be shocked if you don't put some fish in the boat.
