Welcome!!!! Glad to have you in Texas!
Just wanted to say hey. Moved the family from Florida a few months ago. We’re renting in Katy and are currently house hunting for where we want to settle down. Seems to be some good options in the greater Houston area.
I’m torn between south and closer to the salt or north closer to Lake Conroe. This is officially the longest I’ve gone without fishing (about a year) but the good news is I’ve got the green light to get a new boat once we move into the new house. Already checked out the new Vexus center console, but want to see the Excel, Xpress, and other models in the 19-20 foot range.
Look forward to hanging out on the Texas board and hopefully a meetup next year!

Welcome!!!! Glad to have you in Texas!
Thanks so much! I can tell you, generally speaking, the people here are way nicer than Florida. From the DMV to the local box stores, when we were settling in and they found out we just got here, the locals were very generous with advice and suggestions and offered great customer service. The current struggle is finding places that have actual garage sizes that can store a boat. Seems to get a bit of a yard and a proper garage will come at the cost of commute time to work.
I feel like I've always had an inner cowboy, just stuck in a yankee's body!

Welcome. I would focus on how far the home is from work. Commuting in Houston is tough. Did it for 15 years. Lake Houston, Lake Livingston, and Lake Conroe are fantastic fishing lakes. Watch out for an hombre known as Silent Killa (SK) as he dominates the crappie fishing tournaments. Oh, and he will help you in any way and give you the fishing shirt off his back. He has helped me immensely and I fish Lake Austin. Again, welcome.

Welcome to Texas!
Well if you like the salt water I would recommend where the Hurricane came in last year, down near Corpus as the water is much prettier down there. I lived down there for about 11 year and the bay fishing is awesome!!!
If your more a fresh water guy then I say live up North side of Houston and be close to the lakes and not exceedingly far from Sam Rayburn. I live on Toledo Bend which is on the border of Louisiana and is 65 miles long and has 1200 miles of shoreline. I do love living and the fishing here is really great!
I do know lots of guys fish Conroe and other lakes around Houston, but I don't know much about them so am of no help except to say I have tied a lot of jigs for guys fishing Conroe.
Good luck with your choices!
