Thread: Finesse Crappie Jigging

Great video. Light jigs are all I use, heaviest being 1/16th. If they bite 1/16 then I stay with it. If they don't bite or short strike then I go with a lighter jig. Almost always use a nibble with the jig unless they are really biting good then no nibble. Cast out a little then count it down to desired depth. Slooooooowly reel in at desired depth. Get under the boat and start jigging, repeat. 6 lb line for most but ultralight jigs get 4 lb line

I tye and use a lot of 1/80 and 1/64 oz jigs. catch some of my biggest on the smallest

Yes lite jigs 1/48,1/64,1/32,1/24,1/16 and 1/8 oz.2-4 lb test line.Med lite to Med rods,searching for the rite ultra lites.Like 6-6 to 9 ft rods.

I was using a 1/64 bream cricket just yesterday myself but I wasn't ketchn crappie

I love the 1/32 Oz jig, but deep I just have a hard time waiting on them to get down much like you stated in this video! Then if there is any wind I have another issue with the small jigs, lol! Here sometimes I even will go to a 1/4 Oz jig and use it as bait and weight, in summer will have a minnow above that on a Gamakatsu Drop Shot hook, like a #2 or maybe even a #1. I have also use them heavier jig on the bottom and a tiny jig above that. That little jig would just be mostly thread and wings made from Peacock Swords.

Spring and fall I am 1/32 Oz Roadrunner or Pony long line trolling! I did manage to get hold of some 1/48 Oz Pony heads and am looking forward to trying them out. Glad I have plenty of heads with Sickle hooks to last me a very long time. I also have plenty of real Roadrunner heads and I do like them a lot, but like the Sickle hooks in the Pony heads a lot too!
