Default Mousetail area finally caught some crappie

FINALLY, Friend and I caught some crappie.. Started at Mousetail and went up river...we were casting jigs into cover and stickups.. we caught about 50 with 26 nice keepers,, nothing like those East Tennessee men, but some of the biggest crappie I have caught in years.. we had a couple in the 2 pound range , with several in the pound and a half range and we only had to measure 2 or 3. I was going to bring them home and post my first pic.. But as we were leaving there was a family fishing and we asked how they were doing and they hadnt caught anything, and since they looked like they needed the fish worse than I did, We offered ours to them, should ve seen their eyes light up.. Nothing like a good day fishing with a friend and then making someone elses day too.

Oh we were using an odd combination, the Mean Green jig head, with a blue and white skirt. We tried some other colors and no go.. even the green headed jig made a differnce. We only fished from about 8 to 2..

I am haveing minor surgery next week that wil have me out of action for a few weeks so I guess might be my crappie tail for the year..lol. (hopefully not)

I fished down at Clifton (Beech Creek) Saturday with my Dad. We caught about 4 crappie, 1 bluegill, 3 Stripe. None were keepers. Talked to others and they hadn't had any luck either. Did enjoy the time with Dad though.

Did you catch any of yours in Beech River? I've tried Mousetail several times and never had much luck.

Did yall try Cub Creek? I was thinking about giving it a try on Friday depending on the weather.

Default yes to floats and Cub

Yep we were using floats when we were in 3 foot of water we went about 18inches deep and in 5-6 foot of water we went about 30 inches deep. We would cast past stickups and bring it close by and let it sit a minute if they didnt hit right away.

Yes we fished Cub, We caught several there and didnt even get to the best fishing area in my opinion. I think we were more patient than most.. Boats were coming and going but none were staying with it.. We were ctaching them fast enough we didnt want to run around too much. I didnt see any of the bank fishermen catching any or very few..they were the one s coming and going the most. Water temp was about 56 degrees

Good report, and great gesture to give your fish away. Kindness is always a good catch.
