No, there is no need to remove the red streaks in yellow bass. They are so tasty and do not leave the negative taste that the streaks do in the white bass and the Stripers.

Me and two fishing buds went crappie fishing yesterday in the constant brutal north winds. We caught probably 150+ yellows and 1 crappie. Between 2 of us, we kept 60 of them. Filleted up and doing the soak now. Can’t wait for a plate fried up tomorrow evening! Had 5 over 11”. Good thing they don’t get too big cause they are some fighting rascals for sure.

They do fight hard for their size and these are the best tasting fish in our lake. I love them. I always fry them but Dr Phil grilled some the other day and said that they were fantastic.

Haven’t tried any on the grill but I bet they’re delicious. I never could like white bass cooked any way possible. Just too fishy for me. And was skeptical on the yellows until I tried them. They rate right there with bluegill and crappie to me. I’ve fed them to a lot of people that didn’t know what they were and the reviews have all been positive. Winter time is the best time for me on catching the 10”+ size fish.

I have never tried yellow bass cause I thought they would be like white bass. I don't care for white bass at all. I may give them a try now.
    Thanks guys !

Terry, if you use your electric fillet knife and remove all the red streaks from the white bass, they are delicious with no fishy taste. I usually just keep the top loin on the white bass. Also, I wash them with a garden hose until they quit foaming. White bass have a lot of fat in them and I wash all that out. Beautiful sweet tasting fish that I deep fry. Now I’m hungry.

Next time that I clean them, I’ll take pics and show you what they look like when I get through with them.
