    Default Poor crappie afternoon. 2/7/23

We had a poor day of crappie fishing. It started off with a trip to the dentist office and then when my son in law got off work around 11am, he volunteered to go with me for a couple of hours before he had to go to bed.

I had what was supposed to be a positive report from a friend, but it turned out to be one of those “you should have been here yesterday” things. So much for taking someone’s word instead of following my own instincts.

We got out in Wolftever creek and fished a few places but only caught very tiny crappie 5” and only one 10.5” keeper that was released. Scottie did catch a pretty Warmouth bass on a crappie jig. I usually catch one or two in a years time.

Water temp in the creek was 52 degrees and the wind was white crappie in some areas of the creek. When it white caps in Wolftever, then it is time to go home and get ready for the next trip.

Our weather has been pitiful for me. When the wind isn’t blowing double digit from the north and cold temps, then it is raining and I decided that I don’t start fishing in the rain. I don’t mind putting rain suits on when I’m already on the lake and a storm or rain comes up on us. But at my age, I’m not starting out in the rain.

I will second. The weather has been dreadful lately. Hopefully things break and it gets better going forward

Thank you for the report. Did you happen to see much shad up in the creek yet? Last time I was out a few weeks ago I found very few shad compared to a couple of years ago.

The Shad has been thick at times but today I didn’t see a lot of baitfish. The bait has either gone extremely shallow or deeper in places that I didn’t check. Lots of boat trailers in the parking lot though.

Ive found in all my years of fishing that sometimes your the bug and other times youre the windshield. You cant catch them all the time or it wouldnt be called fishing. You'll get 'em before long. Atleast you guys got to spend some time on the water together.
