    Red face Crappie report, 11/02/22

My son in law and I had a good morning of crappie fishing. I guess that it as more midday than morning. Anyway, I took him to a spot that I found a few weeks ago and we sat there for a while and caught the fish. We ended up with 11 keepers and two big yellow bass that came from a different spot.

I though that one of the yellow bass might be a TARP for me, but alas, it was only 10” long and it needed to be 11”. The other yellow bass was 9.5” and those two were about as big as I have ever caught before. Best tasting fish that swims in my opinion.

The crappie bite was so subtle that my son in law couldn’t detect the bite and he was limited to two keepers. Very experienced crappie fishermen will know what I mean by the bite. Even though I was using 4 and 6 lb test Nanofil line, you could not feel the bite. The line didn’t jump, go slack, move off to the side, or anything like that. It was just a sense that something was slightly different on the retrieve and I would set the hook and a fish would be on. I believe that they were taking the bait and swimming with the jig. Who knows for sure? I don’t play video games with Livescope on my boat. I will quit fishing before I ever use a forward looking graph and watch them bite on a screen on my boat. Grin.

Hooksets are free. Yep, sometimes that bite can be hard to detect, and I have the tendency to set the hook a little too much! doh

Great report and pics, thanks for sharing.

Bites like that are exciting. Makes ones senses search for any little tell that a fish is there. That feeling that a crappie just breathed on the jig
