Douglas is way down on numbers had some bad spawn years
This whole year has been tuff probably be a couple more years till its good again
Anyone had any luck on Douglas for crappie? Been fishing the flat creek area (most southern spot) and this year just been tough.

That would make sense. How do you know crappie had bad spawns though?

I base it off of several things
Last summer night fishing never catch any short fish have always caught short fish night fishing
last summer trolling crankbaits all you could catch was 12 inch an bigger fish an very few of them i think probably best day we had last year trolling crankbaits was about 15 if its good
that would be a really slow day
this past fall an winter very few short fish again all fish caught was really good fish the 10 inch class of fish is just not there
iv noticed the whites an black fish are the same way we caught very few black fish this past year
this is just my opinion an i definetly could be wrong
Lund thanked you for this post
I noticed a lund boat putting in saturday morning at the dam when i was picking my buddy up
I bet that was you
No it wasn't, wish I was. I have family in the area and sometimes take my boat up there to fish but haven't since spring.

Agreed, "off" year. I'm afraid this might be a trend though. I've fished Douglas a long time. I don't have any numbers of fisherman other than what I see on the lake, but the fishing pressure for crappie and bass the last 10-15 years or so has really increased. I'm just speculating, but years ago there were no otters or stripers in Douglas either, I have no idea how many fewer crappie these may account for, if any? The big thing though has already been mentioned, bad spawn classes. TVA is in the energy and flood control business, so when it comes to raising or lowering the lakes in spring, the crappie, bass, etc., spawn, isn't given a second thought.
