Default I didn’t think that I would see it. 7/22/21

I knew the day was coming sooner or later and it finally arrived today. Cuonthelake was skunked while crappie fishing. She almost got the skunk off herself, but the little short crappie zoomed to the top of the water and flipped its tail at her in mock derision and was gone.

I didn’t do much better myself. I caught a short crappie on an offshore structure on the very first cast of the morning, then followed that up with an 11” crappie on the next. I thought - “Hot dog! It’s gonna be a good day.”
    Wrong.

I can say this for DK. I sure can find schools of fish. I just can’t make them bite when they are in a negative mood. I almost felt sorry for Candi as she got in a lot of casting and tying jigs practice. She broke off 8 times. But she was fishing in the right places. We just couldn’t find any dumb crappie. Lolol

We changed locations, lures, colors and I thought about getting out my perch colored hand grenades, but thought better of it. The highlight of the morning was when Candi gave me a bag of homemade peanut butter cookies. But we are like the old Timex watches. We will take our licking and keep on ticking.

Those cookies look good enough to brighten any day! At least you two get out on the water and can enjoy the company and fishing. Sure is a better than work!

Tuff part of the year to fish. Did the rains have the water muddy on the end of the lake?

The water down here is still pretty clear in places. Lots of willow flies floating on surface and some waters off the main river have a slight stain. Wolftever creek is pretty clear but I don’t fish that creek except during winter and very early spring. It is perfect for water skiing, jet skies and other water sports. Plus most of the bigger crappie have moved out. Tons of tin crappie in there though. I fish the main river 99% of the time in summer. Bigger more predictable fish.

I usually fish Hiwassee or from a few miles below Hwy 60 on up river. Water was pretty muddy leaving Dayton earlier in the week. I didn't know how bad it had effected Ya'll

Now what did I tell you about poking a bear?

I may poke at a bear myself. But I will not poke a bear that is in the same boat as me.

He already received the cookies before the bear poking had began. He may have jeopardized some future cookies and or some mighty good looking cobblers. Made my blood sugar levels rise dangerously high just from the photo. DK will no doubt redeem himself and gain his cookie and cobbler credits back
