I am thinking it is about time to grab a bucket of minnows, and some lights and set up either om the 30 or 60 bridge and do some night fishing.
I was ledge fishing for those old trashy green fish. I managed to catch ONE. I was pouring buckets of sweat by 10a. Brutal. I live in Ooltewah and often drive to Grasshopper Creek to avoid the crowd. Not many fishing. Actually peaceful for a change. Different world from the insane Harrison Bay area. I always carry a few rods for crappie...can't help it. I motored up to the bridge to catch some air and cool off. One column was loaded with what looked like crappie. Heaviest jig head I had was 1/8 oz and I didn't have any split shots. I could not get my jig down to them before current carried it away.

We usually get about 4 hatches a year in middle Tn. I've read that a healthy mayfly hatch is a sign of a healthy body of water. Weak hatch is supposed to mean that something is off.

Must be healthy. You had to breathe through your nose or you could have added mayflies to your diet

The Duck River near Chapel Hill had a great mayfly hatch. Glad to see it but it was nothing like the pictures you posted. Those bluegill and going to suffer from bloat!
I have never seen the likes of the ones floating in large mats in the middle of the river. They looked thick enough to walk over. They were thick in the air also. I could have netted up a couple of bucket fulls for the chickens. They would have loved that

I was at that dock last mayfly season and man was it covered. I don't even bother with fishing that area. My theory is the fish are gorged on mayflies. And not hungry at all.

'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6
I had not thought anything about the mayflies being anywhere around. I put in at the ramp in Dayton, went and shot the toons at Bluewater. Then headed down the river in search of some deeper docks. No mayflies up river from there. I was surprised to see them. I fished around a few minutes and headed back to load the boat
