Default Crappie with abnormal growths on fins

Hey all, been catching some crappie in Percy Priest with these “growths” on their fins. Any ideas? Thanks.

Don't remember where I read the article but I think TWRA was wanting to know what waters this showed up.

I got interested and did some research. From what I could find it is caused by a virus. I could bot find the article Dollfly has mentioned

I’m surprised, and glad, that this seems to be rather uncommon. I’m going to
reach out to the TWRA today. I’ll post what I find out. Thanks all.

We see it a lot this time of the year not usually that bad. An may not be the same thing. In my opinion it is late spawning fish these fish I follow every year an they finish spawning first of June usually second week of June they will have sore places on them in their fins an sometimes around their gills. This is the only picture I have but most are worse than this oneName: IMG_1580.jpg

    Hey all,

I sent the picture to the TWRA. They responded that it looked like a “prolonged bacterial infection initiated by an open wound or abrasion while spawning”. Makes sense.

That is good news. I fell down the rabbit hole of fish diseases. Some nasty stuff out there.

You jogged my memory. I intended to check on this years ago.
I found this site and it looks to me like it could be this Lymphocystis thing.
