    Default Chickamauga crappie 4/09/21

This day with Biofisher started with a trip to Watts Bar dam to fish for Stripers. Very slow day up there that was ruined by all the guide boats from NC and Kentucky and points beyond, so when it became like a zoo or a Chinese fire drill by 8 am, I suggested that we go back home and go crappie fishing. Good decision.

We avoided most of the fishermen that packed Wolftever ramp parking lot area and fished a less crowded portion of Chickamauga. Fortunately for us, enough crappie showed up in the shallow places that we fished to make it interesting. Still we saw several people fishing from the shorelines in nearly everyplace that one could find to fish.

In the 4 areas that we tried, we caught a few keepers. 17 total that we landed along with the less than 10” fish. The male crappie have on their tuxedoes and the females are getting ready for the dance. It will happen this weekend for many crappie as we saw temps in the mid 60’s in all areas.

Our biggest crappies were 13” with most in the 11” range. Some a little less and some near 12”. We tight lined about 1/2 the time and used a floater and jig in a couple of areas. I didn’t take very many pics.

Have the skipjack been back to the dam in good numbers? We use to catch a lot down there but they seemed to have disappeared. Nice fish and thanks for the report.

We haven’t caught a skipjack up there in several weeks.
