Great information! i have never fished Dale Hollow. Can i assume that I may find the Bluegills and Shellcrackers back in the coves much as anywhere else? How are you catching them this time of year?
    thanks

Take a right out of Holly Creek on to the main lake and go straight...you will run right into Kemper Flats.

I have been fishing Dale Hollow off and on since 1965. I would always plan my vacations home during spring when I worked my 21 years in Saudi. My late nephew was a guide on Dale Hollow for about 10 years. I have fished it during the nastiest of winter days....using Float'N Fly and fished it under the black lights in the heat of summer. I am by no means an expert on the lake. I am just relating my experience there. By the way both my nephews fished it religiously year round for about 25-30 years. Depending on the weather... and temps of the water....and when you are there....sometimes you can miss the whole thing as far as the spawn goes. One year I fished all of April and the first 3 weeks of May and never found the first bluegill bed....then to find out the bluegill spawn happened in June. I have also missed the spawn when the Smallies come up shallow by not being able to go 4-5 days in a row. But when you catch it is magical. In 2016 I fished from 1 April until end of May. It was an epic 2 months for me. In one week I had over 300 Smallies from 18-21 inches....all caught on JDM UL rods with 2# test line. It was a struggle to decide to fish for bluegill or stay on the flats and fish for the Smallies. Since then I have made a few trips each year. This year I am hoping to fish it quite a bit. Right now the lake is not fishable from the flooding we have had.....many boat ramps can not be used.....last I heard lake is full of wood...debris. Of course all that can change in 2 weeks....I'm hoping it does. As I am getting older I do not like doing the drive by myself....but hopefully have a few more trips in me. Here are a few pics to whet your appetite.

Wow, just wow. After all the things if heard about Dale hollow and the pix of the Monster gils and Smallies you provided, I am going to have to fish it more often, Id love to catch a stringer of Gils that big. I have to confess I like the sweet taste of Bluegills even more than Crappie. I have good friend that bought 75 acres in Tennessee so I will be visiting more often. I sure hope the water is right when we go down 4/10- 4/17, even if we miss the spawn Im sure I can long line or spider rig and do ok, I will report back, thanks for the info.

you won't miss the blue gill spawn mid April. The shellcracker will spawn 1st and will still be spawning when the bluegill arrive. I am not familiar with Dale Hollow but my usual haunts don't get active until end of April/early May. Hopefully the bream experts on this forum can give us more precise info.

I am very familiar with bluegill and shellcracker spawning habits. You may or may not find spawning shellcracker at Dale Hollow in mid April. It is extremely unlikely you will find bluegill spawning in mid April on Dale Hollow. Water temps were 53 degrees 2 days ago....and I am sure they have dropped the past 2 days. A couple of years back the shellcracker and bluegill spawn did not happen until June. I know a lot of folks who have picked their 3 day window at Dale Hollow for the spawn...book accommodations....and not find a single bed during the time they picked. My point is on that lake it can happen quick...and end quick. It is unlike any of the other waters I fish.
