Default Crappie fishing on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes......

    Hey all,

Newbie here. Just retired and planning on fishing a bunch more. One thing that I keep hearing over and over is how crappie fishing (well, all fishing) has been decimated by Asian carp in both Kentucky and Barkley lakes. You folks that fish these two lakes, what are your experiences? Any truth to these rumors?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ed

The AC have changed the crappie fishing in both lakes, but far from being decimated. The sport fish are in different places and react to different approaches.

I suggest you find a guide who specializes in the way you fish (trolling, spider rigging, long lining, etc.) and book a trip to see how and where the fish are and how the guide goes about finding and catching them. Some of the guides shut or slow down during the winter months, but there are some that are still active. If you want to book a spring trip I strongly suggest you do so now or very quickly. The hot spring months fill up quickly and I am sure most crappie guides are filling up their schedules already.

Thanks, Clint. That’s encouraging. And I’ll take your advice and hire a guide. I’m planning on setting up my boat for spider fishing. Anybody have any guide recommendations?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ed

Ed - look at the top of the Tennessee forum in the "stickies" for a list of guides who are familiar with "your end" of the lakes.

Decimated is a little strong, we missed some spawns but things are improving and there are still plenty of fish to be caught now. Just have to look for them. Here’s a few from last few weeks.

Hey Pab1981, thanks for responding. I’m glad to hear the rumors aren’t entirely true.

    Thanks,
    Ed

The fish I been catching here lately are so big that the camera person has to stand 20 feet away to get the whole fish in the picture.
